Meaning

Lighting a lamp at dusk marks the turn from the day’s work to rest.

The flame is offered as light against the gathering dark, a way of pausing to give thanks as the day ends.

Clean the lamp, add ghee or oil and a wick, light it at dusk, and sit or say a prayer while the flame settles.
